In 2005, the City of Airdrie pioneered a shift from traditional paper-based census collection to a web-based solution, becoming an early leader in digital census delivery in Alberta.

By 2009, this work evolved into a hosted Online Census System, delivering secure and reliable census services to more than 50 municipalities of all sizes across the province.

Continuous improvement, collaboration, and adherence to best practices led to provincial endorsement of the platform as a trusted approach to municipal census delivery.

During the 2020 pandemic pause, the system underwent a full rebuild and modernization. Today, Online Census is a fully modern platform designed for performance, security, and long-term sustainability.
